Loupiot Rouge Vin de France – Domaine Jean-Yves Millaire
Vinification: Vin de France, affectionately named Loupiot, evokes the playful essence of “little wolf” and “little child.” This latest estate offering is a sulphur-free marvel, crafted from a harmonious blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, nurtured on 2 hectares of clay-limestone soil. The grapes undergo a gentle manual harvest before a brief maceration. Fermentation unfolds in concrete vats, retaining vibrant fruit and a whisper of effervescence. Bottled swiftly in November, Loupiot promises a delightful, pure expression of its terroir.
Tasting note: A deep, dark purple colour greets the eye, hinting at its character. The nose bursts forth with vibrant aromas reminiscent of black fruit yogurt, laced with a delicate spice. On the palate, it’s refreshingly round and fruity, boasting a luscious, pulpy texture. The finish delights with its chewiness, returning to that playful fruitiness, ultimately giving way to tantalising chalky and spicy notes.
