Malvasia “Miklus” Doc Collio – Draga
Vinification: An intense orange wine from Collio, Italy, crafted from 100% Malvasia Istriana. Hand-harvested in late September from San Floriano del Collio vineyards, aged 16 to 52 years, on a hill of marl and arenaria (“ponca”) at 210 m. It macerates for 14 days on skins in open conical oak vats with indigenous yeasts, three daily punch downs, then rests 24 months on the lees in large oak. Naturally unclarified and unfiltered, with no temperature control, bottled after a minimum six months.
Tasting note: An intensely amber-golden orange wine, its appearance veering from bright yellow to amber with extended maceration. The bouquet is expansive and complex, notes of apricot, peach, acacia honey, Mediterranean herbs, and citrus. On the palate it is dry, full-bodied, creamy, and savoury with notable minerality and a powerful, persistent finish, often with a bitter almond aftertaste. Sediment may appear; ageing potential exceeds twenty years.
