Le Ragose is a well-known winery located in Negrar, Italy, within the Valpolicella wine region.
The winery is famous for producing high-quality wines, particularly Amarone della Valpolicella and Valpolicella Ripasso. These wines have earned recognition for their rich flavors and the traditional winemaking techniques employed by Le Ragose.
In 1969, winemaker Arnaldo Galli and his wife, Marta, began researching and experimenting with innovative techniques in vine-growing and winemaking. Their son Paolo, who holds a degree in Business Management, and Marco, who graduated with a degree in Agriculture and completed a thesis on “Microvinification of Local Varieties,” continue to explore new methods to consistently produce high-quality wines.
The family is dedicated to prioritizing quality over quantity while respecting traditional practices and incorporating modern technology in vine-growing and winemaking. The estate spans forty acres and employs dry farming, which means no irrigation is used. Due to the steep slopes of the vineyard, all work must be done by hand. For aging the wines, large Slavonian oak casks and both new and used French Allier and Tronçais barriques are utilized, allowing the unique terroir characteristics to shine through and making the wines from Le Ragose distinctly representative of their origin.
Marta Galli, often referred to as “La Signora del Vino,” was honored as the “Wine Maker of the World” in 1990 by her fellow winemakers. This recognition was partly due to her efforts in revitalizing Valpolicella as a classic Italian wine and helping it achieve DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) designation.
