The Virna Borgogno Winery is in Italy’s renowned Barolo wine region. It has been a family-owned winery since 1920 and is known for producing high-quality wines, particularly Barolo. The winery in the municipality of Barolo within the Piedmont
region spans 12 hectares of vineyards. The winery adheres to traditional winemaking techniques, incorporating modern methods to create remarkable wines. They emphasise using indigenous grape varieties, primarily Nebbiolo, in crafting their Barolo wines. The winery has a yearly output of sixty thousand bottles, with Barolo accounting for 70% of their production. The Sarmassa and Cannubi-Boschis vineyards are highly esteemed. In addition to Barolo, traditional Barbera, Dolcetto d’Alba, and Langhe Rosso are from various small vineyards.
Since the 1950s, Lodovico has introduced innovative practices to enhance the quality of his vineyards. In 2001, Virna became the owner and winemaker, adding her name to the estate. To day, Virna and her sister Ivana continue the tradition of Barolo winemaking while incorporating modern methods to accentuate the unique characteristics of their wines. They employ a variety of large oak barrels for ageing, striving to capture the subtlety and texture of Nebbiolo rather than solely highlighting its power.
